"We Are Young" Inspirasikan Semangat Jiwa Muda Amerika
Era digital dengan era tahun 80an atau 90an memang beda. Terbukti bahwa suatu hit mungkin bisa timbul tenggelam berdasarkan bagaimana reaksi pasar itu menggejolak. Era-era tersebut mengisyaratkan bahwa penjualan kaset, CD atau LP dihitung berdasarkan permintaan pasar per minggu yang melejit karena peranan radio airplay atau promosi gencar suatu recording company mempromosikan artisnya.
Saat ini barangkali tidak demikian, pada era digital seperti melaui itunes, amazone.com dewasa ini dibisa dibuktikan bahwa seseorang mendownload suatu hits bukan karena promosi gencar dari suatu recording company tapi dapat pengaruh lainnya.
Sebut saja hit "We Are Young" dari kelompok indie rock asal Amerika Serikat yang tergabung dalam kelompok Fun. (Entah kenapa penulisannya diikuti dengan tanda titik atau dot FUN.) Lagu "We Are Young" awalnya itu biasa-biasa saja yang mulai direlease bulan Desember 2011. Namun Serial TV musikal "Glee" rupanya sangat jeli membidik dan mempopulerkan lagu ini dalam suatu episodenya yang kelompok musik aslinya belum begitu popular.
Namun setelah lagu ini digunakan dalam spot Chevrolet dalam Superbowl XLVI mendadak banyak yang menyukai lagu itu jadi banyak dibicarakan dan didownload melaui media-media digital di Amerika Serikat. Single We Are Young jadi fenomenal karena menyuarakan heroik jiwa muda mereka selayaknya seperti halnya anthem lagunya Queen yang berjudul "We Are The Champion" maka mulai ramailah single itu banyak diunduh secara digital.
Single "We Are Young" akhirnya dapat merajai singgasana Billboard Hot 100 selama enam minggu berturut-turut (Maret s/d April 2012) dan menjuarai Chart di Kanada dan Israel, namun belum terdengar single itu sukses di Eropa, kecuali di Italia yang masuk Top 3 minggu ini (14 April 2012).
Menurut sementara kalangan suksesnya single hit "We Are Young" dianggap karena inspirational terutama sangat menyuarakan semangat kaum muda tentu saja di Amerika. Grup indie rock Fun. disinyalir seolah-olah mengekor ketenaran dari Foster The People yang sama sama bercorak indie yang sebeumnya sukses dengan single Pumped Up Kids.
Single hit "We Are Young" menjadi #1 di Billboard Hot 100 sebagai hit rock yang menempati posisi utama setelah 10 tahun yang sebelumnya diduduki oleh Nickelback dalam How You Remind Me pada bulan Desember 2001-Januari 2002. Dalam kurun waktu 10 tahun agaknya musik rock kurang mendominasi di Billboard Hot 100 karena selama ini dominasi puncak tangga selalu dijawarai oleh penyanyi-penyanyi beraliran pop atau R&B seperti Rihanna, Katy Perry dan Lady Gaga.
Di Indonesia single ini belum kelihatan sukses. Di beberapa radio airplay sudah mulai memperdengarkan hit ini untuk menjadi unggulan. Cuma peta musik di Indonesia saat ini memang sudah banyak berubah mengingat masyarakat pecinta musik di Indonesia lebih memfoskuskan pada pasar musik dalam negeri dan kurangnya promosi perusahaan rekamanan lagu-lagu barat di Indonesia.

Sukses Carly Rae Jepsen dari Canadian Idol ke Chart Musik Dunia
Kontestan Canadian Idol Top 3 ini tidak main-main, buktinya langsung
melesat di No.1 di Canadian Chart, Australia, Selandia Baru, Irlandia dan
minggu ini di UK Top Chart (8 April 2012) meskipun sebelumnya di US hanya sempat
